ECARO-25 is a total flood fire suppression system designed to suppress Class A fires. It is the preferred protection method for high-value assets and businesses that cannot afford downtime or significant loss from fire. A compound of carbon, fluorine and hydrogen, HFC-125, is an acceptable replacement for Halon because of its zero ozone depletion, low global warming potential and short atmospheric lifetime. Unlike water-based systems, ECARO-25 will not damage high-value assets or pose the need for major cleanup. It is non-conductive, non-corrosive and leaves no residue. In addition, because it is discharged as a gaseous vapor, it penetrates enclosures quickly to get to the source of the fire where water and dry agents cannot.

Halon was once considered the best choice of fire suppressing agents. When it was discovered that once discharged, Halon could significantly damage the ozone layer that protects us from damaging UV-B radiation, the production of Halon was discontinued in 1994. There are no cost-effective means of safely disposing of it, so guidelines recommend recycling and reusing existing Halon supplies. The EPA is responsible for testing agents for human exposure, ozone depletion, global warming potential and atmospheric lifetime. The result of this testing is that today, we have a variety of alternatives to Halon that are clean agents and produce no or low human and environmental impact.
Clean agent alternatives to Halon:
Hybrid suppression systems combine a mixture of water droplets and nitrogen gas. These systems provide both extinguishment and cooling to prevent reignition. The process of injecting nitrogen into a water stream at the nozzle results in the discharge of tiny droplets that reduce oxygen content. The mist is practically dry, which makes it an ideal option for spaces that house computers and technology. Hybrid systems work well in large rooms and areas that are ventilated.

Firefighting foam is made up of three elements: water, air and foam concentrate. Combined, these three ingredients form a foam that blankets the fuel while depriving the fire of oxygen, cooling the fuel and suppressing flammable vapors. Foam agents include: Aqueous Film-Forming Foam (AFFF), Alcohol-Resistant Concentrates (ARC), Protein Foam Concentrates, Fluoroprotein Foam Concentrates and High Expansion Foam Concentrates. Hiller Hose Reels
The Foam Fire Fighting Station, designed by Herbert S. Hiller, is a reliable system capable of controlling fires and spills of flammable and combustible liquids. One person can efficiently operate the device to its full potential with the necessary speed and effectiveness to deliver foam to the required area in an emergency. This self-contained unit requires only water pressure to operate and is designed for installation in a fixed location such as processing, storage or handling area.
VRP with Haven Foam
As a key component of Hiller’s customizable marine skids, Hiller’s VRP grants users the ability to run the foam system at a wide range of pressure options. The system is designed to accurately proportion the foam concentrate into the water stream to meet a variety of fire suppression needs, effectively replacing the need to have multiple proportioners to properly cover shipboard demands
FiFi systems provide off-ship or external firefighting capability for a vessel. These systems are commonly used on vessels whose primary or secondary role is fire protection of other vessels or structures. The Hiller Companies designs, installs and maintains FiFi systems and offers a range of capabilities that includes ship self-protection capability.
REHEALING Foam Concentrate
RE-HEALING™ foam concentrates from SOLBERG effectively extinguish Class B fire with no environmental impact. They are an environmentally sustainable fluorosurfactant and fluoropolymer-free firefighting foam. This foam is used in fresh, salt or brackish water. It has effective burn back resistance due to its remarkable flow and rapid sealing characteristics.

High pressure CO2 fire suppression systems are highly effective at extinguishing Class A, B and C fires. They can be used in total enclosures or for local applications. In total enclosure application, a space is flooded completely. For local application, it can be used to focus suppression on a single component or piece of equipment. CO2 is the only gaseous agent that can be used in these two ways. CO2 systems can only be used in spaces where there are no personnel, as it is harmful or fatal if inhaled.

Dry chemical fire suppression systems extinguish fire by discharging a dry chemical powder into the space. The powder is stored in a pressurized tank. When activated, a high-pressure nitrogen cartridge opens the valve, releases the powder into the piping and discharges it through the nozzle. There are several common compounds used in these systems: sodium bicarbonate, for Class B and some class C fires and mono-ammonium phosphate, for ABC fires. After discharge, it is necessary to recharge the system, and there is significant cleanup required in the space.

Low pressure fire suppression systems are ideal for non-occupied spaces that require large amounts of agent in a limited space. These systems can be used for local application or total flooding. The CO2 is stored in refrigerated tanks that keep the CO2 at zero degrees Fahrenheit and can be used for a variety of hazards. The tanks can hold several tons of agent and are ideal for large spaces.
