The NFPA 855  Standard for installation of stationary Energy Storage System requires evaluation to NFPA 69 – Standard on the explosion prevention systems and NFPA 68 – Standard on Explosion Protection by Deflagration Venting.  Additionally, per NFPA 855 we are required to evaluate our exposures to Hazards for a failed BESS.

  • NFPA 68 – CFD Explosion venting for BESS.  We review and design pressure venting for partial volume and stoichiometric volume deflagration.  What are the potential pressures generated during an event and how do we dissipate those pressure to protect life and safety.
  • Heat Transfer and Flux Studies: We use heat studies to determine potential impacts to exposure and to define appropriate separation distances to limit fire impacts and reduce the potential for propagation between BESS systems.
