What is Computational Fluid Dynamics?
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is a branch of fluid mechanics that uses numerical analysis and data structures to solve and analyze problems that involve fluid flows. It has various applications in engineering and science, including aerodynamics, thermal management, and fire dynamics.

Fire protection engineering is crucial in ensuring the safety and security of buildings and structures against fire hazards. Our team specializes in providing top-notch fire protection engineering services, including:
- Fire Hazard Analysis: We conduct thorough assessments to identify potential fire hazards and develop effective strategies to mitigate risks.
- Smoke Control Systems Design: Our experts design and optimize smoke control systems to ensure the safety of occupants and facilitate effective evacuation during a fire.
- Fire Suppression System Design: We provide tailored solutions for the design and implementation of fire suppression systems to effectively combat fires and minimize damage.
Why you may need CFD and Engineering Services.
The NFPA 855 Standard for installation of stationary Energy Storage System requires evaluation to NFPA 69 – Standard on the explosion prevention systems and NFPA 68 – Standard on Explosion Protection by Deflagration Venting. Additionally, per NFPA 855 we are required to evaluate our exposures to Hazards for a failed BESS.
- NFPA 69 – CFD for explosion prevention: We review 9540A Fire tests data and design combustible gas concentration reduction systems for Lithium-Ion batteries BESS using CFD to define the hazard and reduce the risk during a potential gas production event during a Thermal runaway.
- NFPA 68 – CFD Explosion venting for BESS. We review and design pressure venting for partial volume and stoichiometric volume deflagration. What are the potential pressures generated during an event and how do we dissipate those pressure to protect life and safety.
- Heat Transfer and Flux Studies: We use heat studies to determine potential impacts to exposure and to define appropriate separation distances to limit fire impacts and reduce the potential for propagation between BESS systems.
- These studies are critical to meeting code and AHJ approvals for permitting. The quicker you get through permits, the quicker the project moves to operations.
